How to Make a Bootable Pen Drive or USB
Friends, all of us in day to day sometimes are left with no choice when there is a hard requirement of formatting our windows or computer in order to install a fresh copy and we don’t have any CD or DVD of the software and also in case we don’t have the blank CD/DVD. In this case we can use our Pen Drive or the USB to install the windows, to achieve this task we need to make our Pen Drive or the USB bootable. Hard luck in case you don’t have the USB or Pen Drive :-) Please buy a CD/DVD in this case.
Steps for making a USB or Pen Drive bootable:
1. Insert your USB stick to the system and backup all the data from the USB as we are going to format the USB to make it as bootable.
2. Open the Command Prompt or CMD. To do this, type in CMD in Start menu search field and hit Enter. Alternatively, navigate to Start > All programs >Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and select run as administrator.
3. When the Command Prompt opens, enter the following command:
DISKPART and hit enter.
A new windows will be opened. Enter the following command there without closing the first window.
LIST DISK and hit enter.
Once you enter the LIST DISK command, it will show a number of disks. Locate the disk number of your Pen Drive which can be generally of low in size. In the below image my USB drive disk no is Disk 2.
4. In this step you need to enter all the below commands one by one and hit enter. As these commands are self explanatory, you can easily guess what these commands do.
SELECT DISK 2 (Replace DISK 2 with your disk number)
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
