How to install xampp on linux

Download link: XAMPP

1. Assuming you have ubuntu installed on your system. Open terminal in ubuntu

2. Now follow the commands

Enable super user account password on Ubuntu
First, set a password for root user as shown below.

$ sudo passwd root
[sudo] password for ramesh:
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

3. Put you downloaded file in home

4. Now write

tar xvfz /home/abhishek/xampp-linux-1.8.1.tar.gz -C /opt

in terminal
Warning: Please use only this command to install XAMPP. DON’T use any Microsoft Windows tools to extract the archive, it won’t work.
Warning 2: already installed XAMPP versions get overwritten by this command.
That’s all. XAMPP is now installed below the /opt/lampp directory.

6. To start XAMPP simply call this command:

/opt/lampp/lampp start

7. Now test the server is running. Open browser and type http://localhost
